Most patients are aware they should visit their dentist in Santa Clarita every six months for preventative care. Preventive dentistry is important for achieving and maintaining a healthy smile. Dr. Sarkis Aznavour of Healthy Smiles Dental encourages patients to visit him twice a year for some of the following procedures and for education in home dental health care:

  • Dental cleanings and examinations – during each visit to the dentist, patients will undergo a physical examination which may include x-rays to check the health of the entire smile. Cleanings are done to remove areas of plaque and tartar, while evaluating the smile for any concerns. Our dentist is primarily looking for signs of tooth decay, periodontal disease, and oral cancers.
  • Digital x-rays – at Healthy Smiles Dental, we use digital x-rays during our examinations. These allow us the opportunity to focus closely on the smile and check for signs of decay or disease where the naked eye cannot see. We can examine the bones of the mouth as well as look inside of the natural teeth to check for infections.
  • Home care – patients are educated during their appointments on the benefits of proper home health care. Home care is essential between dental visits to ensure a healthy smile. This includes brushing and flossing after every meal. Patients are also educated to contact their dentist if there are any noticeable changes in their oral health.
  • Sealants and fluoride – sometimes, patients can benefit from extra protection for their natural teeth. Dr. Sarkis Aznavour and his team at Healthy Smiles Dental may encourage individuals to consider the use of sealants and fluoride to reduce the likelihood of developing cavities and gum disease.
